Fitting and caring for your new number plates
Prepare your mounting surface, choose suitable fixings and care for printed, gel or acrylic lettering with this practical guide.

Check everything before fitting
Unpack the plates and check the registration, finish and plate position before removing the old ones. If anything is incorrect or damaged, contact Vista with photographs before drilling or fitting.
Check the vehicle's mounting arrangement. Some vehicles use holders; others use screws or adhesive pads. Choose a fixing method suitable for the vehicle and plate, and follow the instructions supplied with the fixings.
Prepare a clean mounting surface
Remove old adhesive residue carefully using a product suitable for the vehicle surface. Clean and dry the mounting area before fitting. Avoid bonding over dirt, moisture or loose material.
Check alignment while holding the plate in position. A temporary reference for the centre can help, but make sure it will not damage paintwork. Confirm that the plate can sit securely without being forced to bend around an unsuitable surface.
Using pads or screws
For adhesive pads, follow the manufacturer's surface preparation, temperature and curing instructions. Apply pressure as directed and confirm the plate is secure before driving. Do not assume every adhesive product has the same application requirements.
If using screws, support the plate while drilling and keep fixings clear of the registration characters. Avoid overtightening, which can damage the plate. If you are unsure how to fit it safely, use an experienced fitter.
Clean raised lettering gently
Use a soft cloth and mild car shampoo with water. Take care around raised characters and rinse away dirt rather than scraping it off. Avoid abrasive pads and harsh solvents, and do not aim a pressure washer closely at letter edges or plate layers.
The spaces around gel and acrylic characters can collect dirt. Clean them gently without prying at the lettering. If a character or plate layer becomes loose, contact us rather than attempting to hide the damage.
Keep checking the fixings
Periodically check that the plate remains secure and readable, especially after cleaning or if the vehicle has received a knock. Inspect holders, screws and adhesive attachment points for movement or damage.
